“Sense of Distant Time”
Beth Barbush interviews Ina Hicks of Friendsville MD.
Ina Claire Hicks is 81 years old and lives in Friendsville Maryland. Ina was the first of many I spoke with in Friendsville. She is a mother of 7, a former genealogist, and some would say Friendsville’s keeper of memories. Ina spoke with me along the banks of the Youghiogheny River where she was born and tells the tale of her favorite tree “Old Oakie”. Through this tree she felt a sense of distant time and a connection to the history of her hometown.
